Frequently asked questions

Are driving test routes free on DriveSidekick?

Yes. All 1014 routes for 257 test centres are free to view, download and drive, on the website and in the app. There is no sign-up and no payment.

Does the DVSA publish official driving test routes?

No. The DVSA stopped publishing test routes in 2010 and examiners can vary their routes. DriveSidekick routes are practice routes built from the roads around each test centre, covering the junctions, roundabouts and road types examiners use locally.

Can I open a driving test route in Apple Maps?

Yes. Every route page has an "Open in Apple Maps" button that loads the route as a multi-stop journey. Apple Maps cannot import GPX files, so we also offer a "drive it in legs" option and Google Maps links.

Which file formats can I download?

GPX (TomTom, Garmin, OsmAnd, Komoot and most sat-navs), KML (Google Earth and Google My Maps), GeoJSON (developers and GIS), TCX (older Garmin devices) and CSV. Each centre also has a single GPX containing every route.

My test centre is missing. Can I get routes for it?

Routes are added as they are approved in the DriveSidekick app, which can also generate a fresh mock test route for any UK test centre on demand.

Turn-by-turn navigation and mock test scoring

The DriveSidekick app turns every route into a guided mock test with voice directions, then scores your drive out of 100 and tells you what to improve. Free on Android.
